Brief Description
A study on the status of women and harassment in Jordan 2017 showed the prevalence of this phenomenon, its causes, motives and factors. The study covered all governorates. It examined the harassment of Jordanian women and girls of foreign nationality and sought to define and describe this phenomenon: what are the victims, the types and forms of harassment and the spread of this behaviour in time and space. The study offered recommendations for amendment to relevant legislation to reduce the phenomenon and impose deterrent punishments on perpetrators. An effective strategy will be put in place to combat harassment in private and public spaces because of its impact on women's participation in public life, from all economic, social and political aspects. Appropriate actions will be proposed at all levels to establish a framework for action within the strategy of the Sham’a Network (Combating Violence against Women).
